“Squirrel Hunters” (3:25) lyrically weaves the story of a civilian volunteer-army fighting off the Confederate “aka squirrel hunters” to our modern-day woes, fighting off the Capitol insurrectionists as well as gerrymandering for control. A traditional tune with lyrics created by Karen Feldner and featuring Dakota Karper on fiddles, a full chorus of vocals and foot stomping engages you to stay vigilant.
(mid-tempo to fast paced old-time folk, featuring fiddles, lead vocal, banjo, acoustic guitar, bass, full chorus of vocals, and foot stomping)
lyrics
Grab your club, unlock your blunderbuss
Gotta keep the rebel crew from attacking us
They're on their way to try and take away
Our state, our ways, our freedom
The train is free to save democracy
We'll meet at the barracks to plan what we need
Our members are tough - our trenches are all dug
Squirrel Hunters to save our Union
In 1862 under General Lou
civilian Squirrel Hunters in two days proved
When you fight for what is right
organize unite - we've got to save our union
Here we go again, the fight that never ends
It's up to us to force amends
Fight for what is right - organize, unite
We gotta save our Union...
With lies unleashed, our Capitol was breached
by an angry mob believing hate speech
Staffers on their feet kept the ballots far from reach
racing to save our union
Insurrection blasting through the halls
Defacing liberty- defacing walls
The National Guard finally quelled the brawl
Squirrel Hunters there by spirit
In 2021 the fight was fought again with a few good men
Eugene one of them
When you fight for what is right
organize, unite - we gotta save our Union...
Here we go again in less than 2 - Cause Georgia's back in the news
Pushing voters from access - pushing to suppress
Stripping power, stripping law - gerrymandering, building walls
Who controls the polls is the winner of it all
gotta call for new Squirrel Hunters
Here we go again, the fight that never ends
It's up to us to force amends
Fight for what is right - organize, unite
We gotta save our Union...
